Interaction of inviscid vortices having orthogonal orientations

چکیده

The present investigation has been carried out from Lagrangian perspective to study the flow field arising due to two and three inviscid and fixed vortex filaments with their axes mutually perpendicular to each other. The equations governing the motion of a fluid particle are a set of three nonlinear ordinary differential equations. For two vortices, the existence of fixed points has been found only when they have their axes intersecting and no such points exist when their axes are skewed. The dynamical system for vortices having intersecting axes is found to be integrable and the path of a fluid particle is closed. Also, the small axial separation of first two vortices acts like a perturbation parameter with respect to the closed path. Adding a third vortex filament to the flow field of the first two vortices produces an interesting change in the nature of the flow field. There exist critical values for the strength of the third vortex corresponding to which the temporal characteristics show sharp changes. This critical value is found to show weak dependence upon axial separation of the first two skewed vortices considered. Also, the influence of external uniform flow on the considered boundless velocity field has been investigated. Results are presented in the form of path of a fluid particle, transverse velocity of the fluid particle, the Fourier spectrum of the velocity signal and Poincare maps of the time series. On the nature of vortex interactions and models in unforced nearly-inviscid two-dimensional turbulence

A powerful feature-tracking tool is applied to several high-resolution, very long-duration, regularized contour dynamics ~contour surgery! simulations of unforced nearly-inviscid two-dimensional turbulence ~2DT! on the surface of a sphere. Particularly low density gases of vortices ~i.e. on average, very widely separated vortices! are examined to ascertain the nature of their interactions. The ...

Effect of Wing Sweep Angle on the Vortex Interaction of a Tail-Wing Configuration

The goal of this investigation is to study the effect of wing sweep angle on the horizontal wing-body- tail configurations in subsonic flow. For this purpose, a series of wind tunnel tests were conducted on a model having a moveable horizontal tail and a wing planform with different sweep angles. Tests were performed at different tail deflection angles. Static surface pressure distribution over...

Equilibrium Vortex Configurations in Domains with Boundary

Given a stable configuration of point vortices for steady two-dimensional inviscid, incompressible fluid flow in a domain D, it is shown that there is another stable configuration of stationary vortices in D with vortices near the original vortices plus additional vortices near any points on the boundary where the speed of the original flow is a nonzero relative minimum.

Interaction of vortices in viscous planar flows

We consider the inviscid limit for the two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equation in the particular case where the initial flow is a finite collection of point vortices. We suppose that the initial positions and the circulations of the vortices do not depend on the viscosity parameter ν, and we choose a time T > 0 such that the Helmholtz-Kirchhoff point vortex system is well-posed on...
